Long-lasting, advanced laser hair reduction/removal without the risk

Trying to stay ahead of unwanted hair growth is an exercise in futility. Fortunately, Andromeda Aesthetics has a far less tedious and long-lasting alternative to razors, waxing, and other conventional ways to remove excess, undesirable hair: the 810 diode laser. This permanent hair reduction/removal method is powered by our unique, 5-in-1 laser and IPL system, Spectrum by Rohrer Aesthetics.

How does laser hair reduction or removal work?

This process gradually removes unwanted hair over a series of in-office appointments. Each treatment session largely involves directing the diode laser toward the areas of excess/unwanted hair. As Rachel Moline Blankenship or one of our qualified and experienced providers passes the laser over the area, it targets the melanin pigment responsible for our hair, eyes, and skin color. The laser also produces heat energy that is absorbed by the targeted hair follicles. The targeted follicles are damaged and inactivated, so hair can no longer grow through them. For this reason, laser treatment is generally considered a permanent solution for unwanted hair. We also refer to it as “hair reduction,” as there is a possibility that hair may need to be re-treated years later due to hormonal changes that may reactivate growth. Instead of being completely eliminated, hair may become finer and less noticeable.

What is involved with a “series” of appointments?

It requires a minimum of six treatment sessions. The total number of initial treatments varies based on factors such as your hair’s thickness, color, and overall goals.

Why do I need to have so many initial treatments?

Hair grows in cycles, meaning that not all hairs grow uniformly. They can be at different stages of growth. To treat all hairs effectively in a given area, we must “catch” and target them when they are in their active growing or anagen phase. Otherwise, those follicles in the catagen and telogen (transition and resting phases) would be missed and go untreated. By spacing out treatment, we account for all hairs at the treatment sites.

How do you space out treatments?

You should schedule an appointment at our office at least once every month or every month and a half. The recommendations are based on the hair growth cycles of various facial and body areas. After that, most patients will only need annual “touch-ups” to maintain the silky smooth results from initial treatments.

Is it good for delicate areas?

Nearly any area of the face and body can be treated, including sensitive spots like between the eyebrows, above the upper lip, and along the bikini line. Thanks to the various settings that allow for tailored treatment, most patients tolerate the process well, making it safe for all skin tones, hair colors, and needs. Most patients say that the application of the laser feels like a sensation of warmth, pricking, or snapping. This subsides after the laser is passed over your skin. The use of cooling and anti-inflammatory creams as needed can help alleviate lingering discomfort, irritation, and swelling. Laser hair removal stands out distinctly compared to other permanent solutions, such as electrolysis. Instead of painstakingly and painfully treating a single follicle at a time, the laser allows us to treat many hairs in one session, and we can do so while minimizing discomfort.
